Microfinance is the practice of providing small loans to poor entrepreneurs who are typically trying to start, sustain or expand a small or micro-business. In the Palestinian Territories more than 50% of the population lives below the poverty line. Despite a highly educated and entrepreneurial labor force, where 90% of businesses are micro-enterprises, it is estimated that less than 20% of Palestinians are eligible to secure traditional forms of credit.

The existing reality deprives the majority of Palestinians the right to meet their most everyday needs, let alone the right to build sustainable and empowering households and communities. We believe this sort of poverty and economic inequality inhibits the viability of sustainable peace.We believe each loan made pays both material and symbolic dividends, dividends that are central to promoting opportunity, stability, and peace in a place that has seen very little of all three.
